About Me:

The starting point for my coaching is a simple one: each of my clients is capable of achieving more than s/he thinks possible.

Underpinning my approach are some wise words from Peter Druker, one of the 20th century’s best-regarded management gurus. “Success” he said “comes to those who know their strengths, their values and how best they perform.” Actually, I would add their weaknesses to that!

And whilst my specialty is career development, building my clients’ personal confidence and self-esteem is key to that. So too is guiding them towards an understanding of the marketplace in which we all have to operate.

My practical experience of pointing clients towards a positive future is augmented by an MA in HRM [with career development as the dissertation subject] and a Diploma in Management together with coaching and mentoring qualifications/training. As a volunteer activity, I am a Business Champion with the East Midlands Development Agency.

A very important influence on my life has been a long-term connection with an international exchange programme [English spelling!]. That introduced me to such varied activities as being horrendously sea sick on a Swedish fishing trawler and, as European President of the alumni group, chairing a meeting held on a mountainside overlooking William Tell’s valley in Switzerland. It has also enabled me to meet the then German President and given me a somewhat peculiar experience as one of the keynote speakers at a conference in the Philippines. The subject on which I was asked to speak was – wait for it! – "Rural/Urban Differences In The Context of Determinants for More Food". If I can do that, I can do anything!

And that, I guess, is proof of the first sentence in this profile.

Who I have helped:

My clients working in the corporate market are mainly business managers ranging from new entrants to strategic level executives and from recent graduates to MBAs and PhDs across a variety of disciplines. However, I have also helped an ice dancer and a geo-morphologist.

In the own-business field my clients have been as varied as someone who produces rather special glass mosaics to strategic change consultants. I have also presented workshops for WiRE [Women in Rural Enterprise] and mentored start-up businesses.

Several clients have made the transition from an employed position to running their own business. J was a particular success. When he first came to see me he was working in a garden sundries warehouse. He now has his own business making motorbike accessories. He also drives a Porsche, has restored an old house in a beautiful part of the UK and enjoys his lovely family.
